One of my favourite places to paint is the Scalp in Dublin, a fascinating valley full of boulder formations left by glaciers during the last Ice Age. This dramatic landscape features steep sides adorned with enormous, tumbled boulders that appear to hang precariously over the road below. As a child, I was both excited and terrified to travel through this narrow valley, gazing up at the massive rocks that seemed ready to tumble at any moment.

This painting captures the view across the gorge at the top of the Scalp, showcasing a beautiful treeline before revealing the slope of boulders and rocks beyond. It’s an enchanting location that inspires my work, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and geological intrigue.
